College Students

If you are someone who wants to have an impact on lives and improve the health of others, then, medicine may be the career path for you.

How will you know for sure?

You will want to explore your medical career goal by working or volunteering in a medically related area. Contact your local hospital, medical clinic, geriatric center, physician, or volunteer networks.

Ideally, your experiences will strengthen your desire to become a physician as well as provide you with opportunities to observe doctors in a real work setting. Consider working at a camp for disabled children, employment as an EMT, home health care worker or certified nursing assistant, or becoming part of a hospice team. Look at some of the opportunities that are available to you in Flint.

When you apply to medical school, you will be facing some pretty tough academic competition. Show the selection/admissions committee that you have experience and know what you are talking about when you say, "I want to be a doctor". Consider applying for the Flint Area Partners in Education program.

Do some research and use online resources to help you find information about a career in medicine.
